Zipolo Habu Resort - Skull Island

Skull Island is at the lefthand end of the island in the background with a nice right peeling off,  the fishing grounds out to the horizon and boat anchorage in front of Zipolo. The sailing yacht in front is a 90 footer, owned by the owner of Power House Hotel in Brisbane.

Zipolo Habu resort is located on Lola Island, in the beautiful Vona Vona Lagoon, a thirty minute boat ride from Munda.

Lola Island is nearly 100 acres of coconut palms and dense bush surrounded by white coral sand beach on the northern end coral reef on the southerly end facing Pualako Reef and the open Solomon Sea beyond.

The Accommodation

Leaf House bungalows, constructed in Vona Vona traditional style of Sago Palm Leaf, Lawya Cane and Wild Betel Nut Tree, provide your accommodation.

All Leaf Houses have their own kitchen equipped with a gas stove, refrigerator / freezer and utensils.

240 volt lighting throughout with power outlets for charging batteries. Bungalows range in size to accommodate various numbers.

Mosquito nets are provided but seldom needed. Toilets and showers are conveniently situated directly behind bungalows amongst flowering orchids & frangipani.

Rain tanks located in close proximity to your cottage, provide fresh rain water for your drinking and cooking needs.

And of course, a bowl of fresh limes and green drinking coconuts will be awaiting your arrival.

The Food

Zipolo Habu dining is based on fresh seafood. Whether you are having Seafood Spaghetti, barbecued Crayfish, Cuttlefish or Chilly Mud Crab, be prepared if your meals are interrupted by the zing of the spinning reel running off with a Queenfish, Bluefin Trevally or Mangrove Jack.

It could be your next meal, if you are skilled enough to land your catch! If you prefer to cook some meals for yourself then it is advised to bring vegetables from either Honiara or Gizo markets and catch or purchase the plentiful supply of seafood readily available at Lola Island.

The Fishing Bar is fully licensed, but if you have a favorite drink, pick it up Duty Free and the Bar staff will be happy to mix your drinks to your preference
The Bar includes rod holders along with Stubby Holders!

The Surf

There are three surf breaks 5 to 20 minutes from the resort - the famous Skull Island is the closest. When the surf's up, you have it all to yourself.

Rendova Island has a further 3 to 4 breaks and is a comfortable 45 minute boat ride away.
Joe has boards you can hire also.

The Season

The best time is between November to March however there are quality breaks throughout the year.

The lows that form in the coral sea during this time usually developed below the Solomon's and drop down towards Vanuatu, these lows push up from really deep water in a south eastly direction.

Morning Nick,

I think they went very well. They had surf every day and surfed four different locations... Skull, Desperates, Wayne's, & Rendova on their last day.

And they were a lovely family and terrific guests. Peter took photos of the Rendova Wave and promised to scan and email them to me.  I am sure you would also like a copy.

 Cheers & regards,  Joe

Hi Nick
Had a great time.  So good in fact we are looking at going back to live and work in the Solomons. The staff at Zipolo were just wonderful.  Didn't get much of a surf, wrong time of year but still the boys fished and we
relaxed which is what it was all about.

They actually only went surfing one day and fished 6 out of 8 days.

We ended up having to stay an extra night at Honiara on our way home, they missed our flight out on Friday afternoon.  IT wasn't a bad thing, just felt like it at 4.30pm on Friday afternoon but by tea time we were happy.

It was something that we wouldn't have seen otherwise so it was fine.  Besides the airline had to pay it was their fault.  Long story.......

Anyway, thank you for your time and effort in securing our holiday, it was certainly worth every minute of it.

Thanks for asking
Sharyne
