Maravagi is a true
hideaway retreat with stunning surf, fishing, scuba diving, seaside scenery, warm hospitality and
excellent cooking.
The Maravagi Resort is situated in a picturesque bay on Mangalonga (or Mana) Island in the north west of the Florida Islands. The area consists of many small islands, extensive reef systems and deep passages where there is abundant marine life. Guests are usually picked up from the beach at Point Cruz in Honiara and taken by motor canoe across Iron Bottom Sound to Maravagi. The trip takes about 90 minutes in these outboard-powered runabouts which are the most common form of water transport in the islands.

| Maravagi Lodge | Main building ... and you can swim right in front | ... with white sand and excellent snorkelling | ||
The SurfOne of the Solomon Island’s best waves is located within 5-10 minutes walk from the resort – you can walk around the beach but the quickest way is to walk along the ridge on top of the hill, then down the backside of the headland.Only 3 hours from Brisbane and be one of the first surfing no crowded pristine, world class waves in total serenity. The main surf season is from Mid November through late April with consistent swells generated from the Northern Pacific Ocean and offshore winds are the order of the day. The fringing coral reefs make great set ups with healthy selection of quality left and right breaks. A surfer's paradise with consistent swells between 3 - 5 foot, getting up to about 8 foot cyclones when pass by. All breaks can be surfed on any tide as there is normally one 1 per day and the average is approx 50cm. The best breaks are within 10 mins walk and the others can be seen from the island. This left called "Shitys" has 3 take off spots and when the swell lines up right, you can surf all the way through. 200 meters plusOff the bombie tends to the bigger and throws out a bit more, the middle section winds down the reef and can be super fast and hollow. The end section is a bit more wally. On the right tide you can get pushed back around without too much paddling. The right across the bay is mechanical, on a big swell there’s plenty of barrels to be had with another super fast right further out at the entrence of the bay which is more exposed. Cathedrals is an excellent quick right hander on the lower tide with a right and left peak on the higher tide in front of the smaller of the two villages on the northern side of the island. The area has only been surfed by a handful of surfers including the crew from Go Tours Travel who where the first to discovery this great area. There are also small waves off the point at Auhua island about 30 minutes boat trip away. Arrange a day trip with the resort direct to experience these waves. We suggest you take 2 boards, your normal boards and something a bit longer or more suited towards riding reef breaks. There is nothing to buy in the way of surf hardware so please bring it all.
Other ActivitiesNot just for surfing, Maravagi Resort has lots of other activities for the adventurer. Visit a local village – about 1 hours walk from the resort will get you to the other side of the island where you will come across Phillip’s Village, a traditional Solomon Island’s village, and a great cultural experience not to be missed. The Skull Caves – located on an island across from Maravagi have some fascinating stories to be told to you by your very own guide. Hire the boat for a day and head across the seas to explore the wonders of the Skull Caves. Fishing – In a word, excellent. Accessible by boat, you are only minutes away from saltwater fly and ultra light spinning for Trevalleys, Bonefish or Coral Trout to casting poppers on the outer reefs for Giant Trevally. Trolling for Mackerel, Barracuda, Wahoo. Yellow fin (AKA Skipjack) or Dogtooth Tuna might be more your fishing dream. If you’re looking to score big, bring out your medium/heavy tackle for Mahi Mahi, Sailfish and Blue or Black Marlin. And lastly for those who want to fish traditionally like the Solomon Islander’s spear fishing is also allowed here. Snorkeling – There is awesome snorkeling everywhere, with so much underwater life to see. There’s a fun bombie right in front of the restaurant, and a great wall on the other side of the bay where you can snorkel. While you are surfing Auhua check out the north side of the island for good snorkeling and spear fishing.
